LEAFLETS have been handed out to Dorset rail passengers reminding them to remain vigilant but not alarmed amid continued security following the London bombings.
The leaflets were distributed by police at Bournemouth, Poole and Gillingham stations yesterday, exactly four weeks after the July 7 bombings and two weeks after another spate of failed bomb attacks.
The leaflet urges people to remain vigilant and alert, but not alarmed. It also reminds the public to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Leaflets were also handed out by British Transport Police and forces covering destinations between Dorset and London, as well as the Metropolitan Police at London Waterloo.
The push comes as part of the continued operation to enhance security and intelligence gathering at Dorset's transport centres in the wake of the terrorist attacks on London.
Amid speculation of further attacks, Dorset Police's assistant chief constable, Adrian Whiting, said: "There in no direct or specific threat to the county but in the current climate we all have to be aware and immediately report anything suspicious or suspicious activity."
Mr Whiting appealed to the public to assist the police."We must never become complacent."
Anyone seeing something suspicious should call the national anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321, or Dorset Police in 01202 222 222.
