Powergen Junior Cup Second round
Bridport 10 Blandford 15
BRIDPORT almost caused an upset against Dorset and Wilts Division One outfit Blandford.
Near perfect weather conditions brought a good crowd to the Brewery Fields and they were entertained by a gutsy effort from the Blues against higher league opposition.
Blandford made the better start and quickly got points on the board through a penalty in front of the posts.
But the home side slowly began to gain momentum and defended very well throughout the match.
The visitors always looked confident in possession and scored with a try in each half, of which one was converted.
In an exciting second period, Clive Samways and veteran John Bushrod scored tries for Bridport to bring them within range.
But enforced changes to the forward set-up through injury left them looking vulnerable in the scrum and line-out and Blandford held on.
