Loonies launch monster new campaign

From the Echo, first published Tuesday 21st Oct 2003.

MONSTER Raving Loony Party chief Howlin' Laud Hope dropped in to Dorchester to help launch his party's latest branch. He was there to welcome its new prospective parliamentary candidate, the Duke de Ranged.

The Duke - real name Henry Duke, of Maiden Newton - hopes to stand against West Dorset MP and Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin at the next general election.

Aged 22, and already the party's Shadow Minister for Red Tape, Blue String and Yellow Ribbon, said: "I first became interested in the Monster Raving Loony Party at the age of 10 after watching the 1992 General Election and seeing the loonies on the hustings. Since then the internet has evolved and I have been able to find out a lot more about the party and its policies.

"By August this year I had got so fed up with the Government and almost all other alternatives that I joined the party.

"Among other policies, we will set up a govern-ment agency to paint contour lines on hills, and paint the roads the same colour as on the maps - thus allowing people to know exactly where they are."

The Duke unveiled his plans at a launch party in the Bulls Head Inn in Fordington, Dorchester.
