Mary off down under
LYME Regis Sailing Club's Mary Rook has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 420 class World Championships in Melbourne, Australia next January.
Mary, who is a sixth former at Wadham School, Crewkerne made the grade after three full weekends of racing in Portland Harbour at the new National Sailing Academy.
She has been a LRSC member for four years, coming up through the youth section which has produced many good sailors in the recent past and is rated as a `Champion Club' for its work in youth sailing training.
Already part of the British youth sailing squad, Mary, together with her sailing partner Rachel Wigmore, came 11th in the last World Championships at Hayling Island, Hampshire in July this year and third in the British Championships at Helensborough, Scotland in August.
The international 420 class is sailed as a youth training boat for its `big sister' the 470 dinghy which is an Olympic class for both men and women.
The Royal Yachting Association have donated a grant to help with her travel costs.
