Evrything must go, well, almost

BARGAIN hunters with a taste for fame beat a path to a house in Weymouth for a televised clearance sale. More than 80 people queued in Briar Close, Southill, to take part in ITV's Everything Must Go! programme.

Owners Brian and Chris Finch had invited the lifestyle show into their home to help clear their clutter and unwanted items but were surprised at the number of buyers that turned up.

Mr Finch said: "I'm over the moon. It's just nice to make some room in the house."

The couple said that clocks were the favourite items of the sale, which will show on screen in January.

The sale raised £1,720 and will pay for redecorating the house and creating a more contemporary home.

Mrs Finch said professional antiques dealers arrived an hour before the sale and waited for the doors to open. She added: "We had quite a rush for the first hour after the sale started and it was chaos."

The cameras were running when Portland collectables dealer Charlie Wouters struck a deal for a grandfather clock. He said: "It needs a fair amount of work but it's still a bargain at £600.

"I've already got a grandfather clock so I will probably sell it on."

Several offers were made for two highly collectable Bernard Rooke pottery lamps with prices starting from £120 and £200. Mr Finch said: "They are so individual that you won't find two of a kind and they double in price as soon as you buy them."

At the end the couple said would still try to sell what was left.
