Carr revealed as new hotel owner

From the Echo, first published Tuesday 14th Oct 2003.

ONLY days after denying any link to the sale of the Sea Witch Hotel, Bournemouth entrepreneur Richard Carr has revealed he will be the new owner from this Friday.

The millionaire's name was linked to the Poole property by a Land Registry document which showed the Jacob Richard Carr Trust had an interest in the 12-bedroom hotel.

In a surprise move last week the hotel's co-managers Marcello Calipa and Ginny Dean were ordered to pack up and close down the business.

The keys were handed over to estate agents acting on behalf of Birmingham-based owners Naparin Ltd 3.30pm yesterday.

Quashing fears that the hotel could be in line for demolition and turned into apartments, Mr Carr said: "We will be running it as a hotel."

The news goes some way towards ending confusion that surrounded the Haven Road hotel.

Council leader Cllr Brian Leverett said he would be keeping a close watch on developments: "I'm very concerned that we maintain the hotel bedspace we have in this town."
