Garden visitors double

From the Echo, first published Tuesday 14th Oct 2003.

COMPTON Acres has beaten all its records - and directors' expectations - by more than doubling visitor numbers to 161,546 between January and September this year.

It follows development work to rejuvenate the gardens and the introduction of new all-weather features.

Visitors had the opportunity to witness the final construction phases and the launch of the new retail facility, the Ark.

The Italian garden has also undergone extensive improvements that have included a re-planting programme to bring it back to its original glory.

Managing director Andrew Sheppard said: "Our new features are all part of a £5 million investment across the venue within the next five years."
